When I found a lump in my breast in 1996 tests verified that I had cancer. At that time I was a single mother of three with no insurance, After a lumpectomy and three months of chemo the cancer came back. Even following a mastectomy new tumors appeared on the scar line resulting in more chemo and radiation. Since then everything has been clear and I feel great. Don’t ever be ashamed to be vulnerable because people are there who care about you.
Sometimes tears just make you stronger.
Without the support of my children I could not have made it. I had my times when I would break down and cry but sometimes tears just make you stronger. I was also lucky to meet a wonderful man who was so supportive during my treatments and recovery. He told me not to do reconstructive surgery for him since he loves me the way I am. If my experience can help even one person then it was all worth it. Just do self-exams, get mammograms, follow your doctors’ advice, stay focused, take care of yourself, and believe you can do this. I learned I’m a whole lot stronger than I realized and there’s nothing I can’t face.
