My name is Nancy. I have been working for King Soopers for the same amount of time that I have been married to my most supportive husband – 37 years! And I am a breast cancer survivor.

Life is a gift – never miss a mammogram!

I was first diagnosed in 2004, but my journey with breast cancer began 14 years ago when my younger sister discovered she had breast cancer. Nine years later, it was me. I had gone in for a routine mammogram when they saw something they did not like. My doctor joked after seeing my chart that I should be the poster child for mammograms—I had never missed one. It proved to me that you’ve got to know your family history and take it seriously.

My mother, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and my 34-year-old niece have also been diagnosed with breast cancer. All of us are survivors. So there’s always hope out there. We’re making it and so can other women. The fact is, my 5 children and 3 grandchildren will have to be careful all their lives with our past record of the disease. But the good news is, early detection has proven to be a winning factor for us. Life is a gift – never miss a mammogram.
