I discovered I had breast cancer through a self breast exam in February of 2007; my sister had been diagnosed prior to me. I had 2 surgeries followed by 8-weeks of radiation treatment, 5 days a week. Every day, I went to treatment and then to work.

Having cancer has opened up my eyes to try to always be happy. I live each day as it comes and draw inspiration from so many places—my husband, children, family, co-workers. All of these people are my support system.

Breast cancer can happen to anybody, but simple things like early detection save lives.

I’m currently working with QFC to develop a support network for people who want to share their story. Talking is so therapeutic; with strength and support, I knew I could make it through my treatments and I want others to be able to have the type of support that I did.

The best advice I got throughout my battle is to keep my chin up. Be strong. Do your self breast exams; keep up on your routine mammograms. Breast cancer can happen to anybody, but simple things like early detection save lives.
