My name is Kathy Wyatt. I have been working for Fry’s for 30 years. And I am a breast cancer survivor.

In Feb of 2007 I found a lump in my breast while showering. I had not had a mammogram in four years, which I regret now. You always think, I’ll get around to it. You just never think it’s gonna happen to you—and you just put it off. After two weeks of mammograms, ultrasounds, and biopsies I heard the dreaded words "you have cancer." It shocked me since I had no family history of breast cancer. I did a lot of research and talked to women who had been through it.

I believe in miracles and according to my doctor I am one now.

Over the next two years I went from breast cancer to lung cancer to brain cancer, each time followed by rounds of chemo and radiation. Without the support of family and friends I could not have made it. I cried all three times I lost my hair, but I decided early on that cancer was not going to get me and it’s still not going to get me. Tomorrow is not guaranteed so I live life with no regrets. It’s been two years since I was told I had a year to live. I believe in miracles and according to my doctor I am one now.

Early detection saves lives. Never ignore a lump, take care of it. Now, I make sure my friends are on top of it. Early detection is so important. If you suspect something, don’t be scared. Have your annual checkup… annually!

I believe my attitude has really made a difference in my outcome. This experience has actually been a positive for me, and it’s changed the way I look at and live my life. You don’t really realize how strong you can be until something like this happens. I used to watch life pass me by, but now I’m working on my bucket list. I definitely laugh more nowadays, because every day is a blessing, it really is.
