When I found a lump during a breast self exam in 1999 I didn’t think too much about it, since breast cancer didn’t run in my family. I went to my family doctor and he agreed it was nothing. But soon after, the lump started to grow rapidly. I went to another doctor, and from then, my life was changed drastically.

My treatment included chemotherapy and radiation. That was followed by ten years of cancer drugs.

Know your body… If something doesn’t feel right, chances are it isn’t.

Not knowing what to expect was very scary, but I wasn’t alone. I had great support from by family. My co-workers sent me cards and stayed in touch; they helped me a lot. The manager of our store came to see me - that meant a great deal.

During my treatment and recovery, I learned that I was a lot stronger than I thought. I feel great now. And I don't have to take the cancer drugs anymore!

My advice to other women is to know your body. Lumps don’t belong on your body. If something doesn't seem right, chances are that it isn't.

It is wonderful to be alive. I am one of the lucky ones!
