As a recently divorced mother of a one-year-old, I was on a much-needed weekend with my girlfriends. Our conversation turned to the subject of mammograms and my friends encouraged me to get checked out "just in case." You can imagine my shock when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Fortunately my family was there for me every minute throughout my lumpectomy, chemotherapy and radiation.

We are women – hear us roar!

Breast cancer made me a stronger person, and it clarified what is really important in my life. My advice to other women facing breast cancer is to have faith in yourself and expect a positive outcome. Encourage the women in your life to get a mammogram every year. We are women – hear us roar!
