I am a Breast Cancer Survivor. Self-examination saved my life, and it can save yours.
 
I discovered the lump myself, between annual checkups. My doctor said I was lucky. Chances were strong the lump might have gone undetected during my annual mammogram. Had that been the case, it would have been another year before the lump was discovered, and I might be telling a different story today. Self breast exams lead to early detection, which in turn leads to a better chance for survival.
 
Going through treatment was challenging. Believe in yourself and stay positive. People are there for you, to remind you that life is beautiful and worth the fight. Family and friends taught me it was OK to let the little things go, and lean on those you love. Stay strong and focus on what really counts. LIFE!
 
Thankfully, with the advances in today's medicine, most of us get through it. I am now in my sixth year of survival. I don't just live for today...but I live for tomorrow and all the great things still to come my way.
